Coby 4 GB Video MP3 Player with FM Radio Review

Coby 4 GB Video MP3 Player with FM Radio
The primary reason I chose the Coby 4 GB video MP3 player with FM radio was price. Starting at $19.99 (Amazon) it's hard to find another player that offers as much in the same price range.

The Coby player features a 1.8 inch TFT LCD display for viewing menu options, videos, photos, and text files. Estimated Li-Poly battery life (per-charge) is around 8 hours. 4GB of flash memory will allow you to add approximately 1000 songs, 3500 photos, or 4 hours of video.

If you rip your music to MP3 using Windows Media Player it is likely each song will include ID3 tags, such as Artist, Album, and Genre. The Coby player uses ID3 tag information to organize music for playback. Also, it's adverstised that the player supports LRC lyric files for syncronized viewing of lyrics.

In addition to MP3/WMA music files, the Coby MP3 player supports photo and graphic images that are in .BMP or .JPEG file formats. Video support is limited to the .MTV file format. The player will also display eBook and text files that are in the .TXT file format.

The Coby player takes advantage of USB 2.0 for quick file transfers and includes everything you need to get started including earphones, USB cable, and User's Manual.

My first impression of the Coby MP3 player was that it is rather large - about the size of a cell phone. It lacks a clip or hook so it either has to be carried or placed in a pocket. I primarily use it while using my stationary bike and treadmill so I added a piece of velcro to the back of it and just stick it on to my exercise equipment.

The construction of the Coby and it's buttons feel a little lightweight but not excessively cheap. It doesn't feel as though it will stand-up to rough handling but I could be wrong. My last MP3 player was much more expensive but only lasted 3 months. The Coby could turn out to have tank like durability. Time will tell.

My primary dislike of this MP3 player are the buttons. I find them less intuitive than other MP3 players I have owned and they don't always function with perfection.

Sound quality is good. Five equalizer presets, Normal, Pop, Rock, Classic, Jazz, and Bass provide various mixes of bass and treble.

The FM radio is fine though at times it has a tendency to fade in and out as you move about. I do appreciate the fact that Coby has tried to make this player as versatile as possible, even if some of the functions are not absolutely perfect.

Although there are a few things I would like to change on the Coby 4 GB Video MP3 Player with FM Radio I love the price and like this player enough that I would buy another if this one bites the dust.

If you know how to use Window's Explorer you do not need to install Coby's included music management software. Click here to learn how to download music to your Coby MP3 player.
