Lenovo V570 Laptop Computer Review

Lenovo V570 Laptop
Price, processor, memory. Those were my primary concerns when shopping for a new laptop.

The Lenovo V570 offered everything I was looking for and more. Priced at $629 [Best Buy] it features a 2nd generation Intel Core i5 processor with 3MB cache, 2.3GHz processor speed, and Turbo Boost up to 2.9GHz. Combined with 6GB of memory this laptop stands out from the rest.

The hard drive is a 640GB 5400 RPM model. While a 7200 RPM hard drive would be preferable, 5400 RPM hard drives seem to be the universal standard for laptops in this price range.

Lenovo V570 Touchpad

A chiclet style keyboard does a good job of keeping dust and crumbs from finding there way into your keyboard. Response from the slightly rounded keys is very good. The touchpad is smooth-textured with little holes. If the goal was to reduce finger friction it worked. I find this touchpad superior to the one on my previous laptop.

The glossy 15.6" WXGA LED-backlit high-definition widescreen display provides plenty of viewing area. If you occasionally want or need a bigger display there is a VGA port for connecting to an external monitor. There is also an HDMI port if you wish to connect to your big screen TV.

Other connections on the V570 include 3 USB 2.0 ports (one includes eSATA functionality), headphone and mic inputs, Ethernet, and a 6-in-1 media reader that supports Secure Digital, Secure Digital High Capacity, MultiMediaCard, Memory Stick, Memory Stick PRO and xD-Picture Card formats.

There is a built-in 2.0MP webcam that makes video conferencing easy but is also used for Lenovo's included facial recognition security software. Another security feature is the built-in fingerprint reader. An intergrated wireless switch allows you to turn-off wireless functions when you are not working online. With this much security available to you thieves should have a hard time accessing your protected data.

The Lenovo V570 includes a built-in wireless LAN (802.11b/g/n), built-in 10/100/1000 Ethernet LAN, and is WiMAX ready so no matter how you plan to connect to the internet you will be ready.

Weight of the Lenovo V570 is a reasonable 5.3 lbs. Thickness is about 1.3". The 6-cell lithium-ion battery has an advertised useable life (per-charge) of 6 hours and 50 minutes. If you prefer to back-up your data to disc a multiformat DVD+/-RW drive is included.

Last but not least the Lenovo V570 is ENERGY STAR qualified - that is, it's designed to use less energy and meet the strict energy efficiency guidelines set by the Environmental Protection Agency and U.S. Department of Energy.

A free trial version of McAfee is included though we prefer Norton AntiVirus 2011. You can read our review of Norton AntiVirus here or if you prefer check the current price using the links below.
