MediaLink MWN-USB54G Wireless USB Adapter Review

I purchased the MediaLink MWN-USB54G wireless USB adapter to replace the wireless adapters provided by AT&T when they installed Uverse internet and TV in my home. The AT&T (2Wire) adapters repeatedly dropped the connection throughout the day.

Installing the MediaLink adapter was simple. The only required step after installation is to enter your network key. Total installation time was no more than 5 minutes.

I've had the MediaLink MWN-USB54G wireless USB adapter installed on two Windows XP computers for the past four months. Since that time neither computer has had a dropped connection. I can't say how this adapter will perform under extreme stress as I seldom use my computer for reasons other than work which does not require a high-performance adapter.

I wanted a wireless USB adapter that would provide a solid wireless connection with the router and this adapter has performed flawlessly for me.

According to the MediaLink website the MWN-USB54G wireless adapter offers the following:

  • complies with 802.11g and 802.11b standards
  • wireless transmission rates of up to 54Mbps
  • include 64/128/152-bit WEP encryptions
  • include 128-bit WPA encryptions
  • auto detects available wireless networks
  • guaranteed compatible with all 802.11n routers

Recently I was interested in purchasing a third MediaLink MWN-USB54G wireless USB adapter but couldn't find any for sale. I had purchased the previous two adapters at Amazon but it is no longer an active product on their web site, or any other online tech supply store I checked.

As the MediaLink adapter appears to be no longer available, I purchase a Zonet ZEW2500P wireless adapter. You can read my review of this adapter by clicking here.
