Milwaukee V28 Job Site Radio Review
As a replacement for my beat-up and barely functioning portable work radio I considered both the DEWALT DC011 and the MILWAUKEE V28 job site heavy-duty radios.
I chose the Milwaukee V28 radio in part because of it's features and positive reviews, but also because I found a reconditioned model available at Amazon
for a significantly lower price. I've had good experiences with reconditioned tools and Amazon, so I didn't have any reservations about purchasing another.
Key Features:
- Rockford Fosgate 44-watt system
- 3-stage Punch EQ bass boost
- 20 station preset, digital tuning, digital clock
- FM radio, digital clock
- NOAA weather radio
- auxiliary port for CD player
- 12-volt power port
- Operates on 18-volt or 28-volt lithium-ion or 12- to 18-volt Ni-Cad batteries, or standard 110-volt outlet
The radio arrived well packed in the original box. All advertised parts were present incuding the manual. An inspection of the radio revealed no dings, dents, or scratches - it appeared in new condition.
Radio reception has been very good though weather band reception was weak, at least at the location tested. Sound quality is very good but not knock-your-socks-off awe inspiring. It has decent volume, and the three levels of bass boost allow you tailor the sound more to your liking.
The Milwaukee V28 radio features solid construction - metal mesh protects the speakers from stab wounds and weather resistant materials in the speakers makes them less susceptible to water damage and dampness. At 22 pounds, this radio is a real porker compared to my old portable radio but I have no doubt it will hold-up well in the less than favorable conditions I will use it in.
Conclusion:
The cost of this radio is well worth it in my opinion for all the features it offers as well as the tank like construction.
