Sedo.com's Premium Domain Name Appraisal Service Review
Sedo.com offers two domain name appraisal services. The first is is what I assume is an automated appraisal that estimates the domain name's value based on the length of the domain, the popularity of the keywords used in the domain, and a few other factors.
The second appraisal option, the "Premium" appraisal, is advertised as a more comprehensive appraisal based on an expert's estimate of the domain name's value, a list of recent comparable sales, and advanced analysis in areas such as search engine friendliness, branding potential, legal situation, possible buyers, and marketing strategy.
I chose the Premium appraisal.
During the purchase process I filled out the box that said "Enter information about your domain that you feel might affect the value of the domain such as traffic etc." or something to that effect. I entered information about the developed web site that was part of the domain sale, including affiliate earnings and traffic stats.
When I received the appraisal, it had a very automated feel about it. No mention was made about my web site, earnings, or traffic. In fact, the appraised value of my domain name was LESS than my yearly affiliate earnings. There was no personal response, or any other indication that a human expert appraised the domain as advertised.
In other words, I'm out $49 and still unsure what the value of my domain name and web site are.
My Conclusion:
Sedo's appraisal service may be adequate if you are appraising a domain name only. However, If you need a professional appraisal that will be based on your domain name, developed web site, earnings, and traffic, I do not recommend either of Sedo's appraisal services.
