2 Wire USB Wireless Adapter Problems

2 Wire USB Wireless Adapter
Of the three 2Wire USB wireless adapters I received when Uverse was installed, one was DOI (dead on installation), the other two frequently dropped the connection with the router.

When the 2Wire adapter loses the signal, a pop-up box appears suggesting the adapter is attempting to reconnect on it's own. I've never seen it happen, because after a few minutes of waiting I take matters into my own hands.

Unplugging and replugging the USB cable seems to be the fastest way to restore the connection. I've found that most of the time you will have to repeat this step repeatedly before the wireless adapter finds and maintains a stable connection.

Dropped connections occur at various times while the computer is on without any apparent reason. My 2 Wire wireless USB adapter always has a problem finding a connection when the computer is first turned on, and tends to drop the connection when a USB device such as a flash drive is plugged-in then unplugged.

I replaced the DOI 2 Wire wireless adapter with a Medialink USB wireless adapter. I was so impressed with that adapter I bought a second. The difference is substantial. Between the two computers with the Medialink wireless adapters I am only aware of one brief dropped connection. Unfortunately, it appears as though Medialink no longer manufacturers this adapter. However, based on the positive reviews I have purchased a Zonet wireless network adapter to replace the last of the three 2 Wire wireless USB adapters.

So far the Zonet wireless USB adapter appears to be a great improvement over the 2 Wire adapter - I have not yet had a dropped connection. I'm using it on a Win XP computer. I've looked, but have not found an answer for the poor connection performance of the 2 Wire USB wireless adapter. I am no longer using 2 Wire adapters, but if I come across an answer to the problem I will post it here.
